Storefront and facade work in Queens

We build, alter, and repair storefronts and building facades for commercial properties across Queens. From new shopfront infills and entrance reconfigurations to facade waterproofing and code-required repairs, we handle the construction and the filings together.

The basics

What is storefront and facade work in Queens?

Storefront and facade work covers the exterior face of a commercial building: shopfront systems, entrance doors, display windows, signage attachments, and the wall surfaces around them. In Queens this often means installing new aluminum or steel storefront framing, reconfiguring an entry, or repairing brick, stucco, and parapets so the wall stays weathertight and code compliant.

NYC specifics

Permits and approvals in Queens

Most storefront and facade changes are filed with the NYC Department of Buildings. A like-for-like storefront swap or facade repair can sometimes proceed as ordinary repair, but changing the opening size, the entrance location, or the egress path generally requires a DOB Alterations filing, typically an Alt-2 for work that does not change use, egress, or occupancy.

If the property sits in a historic district or has a designated landmark, the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) must approve storefront and facade changes before DOB will sign off, which affects materials, glazing, and signage details. Buildings in mapped flood zones may need flood-resistant detailing at the storefront level under the AE or VE provisions.

Accessibility matters at the entrance: thresholds, door clearances, and any change in level must meet the accessibility requirements of the code. We confirm the right filing path, prepare the documents, and coordinate the special inspections so the work clears inspection without surprises.
