Queens service

Front steps and stoops in Queens

New, rebuilt, and repaired front steps and stoops for Queens row houses and detached homes, from Richmond Hill to Jamaica. We pour concrete, lay brick and stone, set proper footings, and add code-compliant railings so your entry is safe, level, and built to last through NYC winters.

The basics

What is step and stoop work in Queens?

Step and stoop work covers building or rebuilding the entry stairs that lead to your front door, plus the landing or stoop at the top. In Queens that usually means poured concrete, brick, or stone steps on attached and semi-attached homes in neighborhoods like Ozone Park and Woodhaven. Most cracking, settling, and crumbling comes from footings set above the frost line, so we rebuild on frost-depth footings to stop the heave from coming back.

NYC specifics

Permits and approvals in Queens

Replacing existing steps in the same footprint and height is usually treated as an ordinary repair and does not need a DOB permit. The picture changes when you expand the footprint, raise the height, or when the steps and stoop project past the property line into the public right-of-way, which can pull in the DOB and, for anything in the city sidewalk area, the DOT.

Either way the work has to meet the code: consistent riser height and tread depth, and a handrail once you pass the required number of risers. Homes in an LPC-designated historic district may need Landmarks review where the stoop is visible from the street, since stoops are often a defining feature of the block.

Key checkpoints

In-kind repair versus an expanded footprint or raised height. Handrail height and graspability for the riser count. Frost-depth footings under the steps. Any encroachment into the public right-of-way and DOT involvement. LPC review in historic districts.
